Know Before You Go
You may have questions about the new adventure you will soon be embarking upon. We have tried to compile information that will be of use to you, from the time you spend preparing and packing, to when you begin your journey to the ship, as well as helpful information for while you are onboard.
Generally you will be able to carry on one bag plus one personal item per passenger.
The following items may be transported in carry-on baggage only if in a 3.4-oz container or smaller and transported in a one-quart clear, plastic, zip-top bag. Otherwise, these items must be packed in checked baggage.
- Toiletries - shampoo, toothpaste, mouthwash, perfume, shaving foam, aerosols, deodorant, eye care products
- Cosmetic products - perfume, hair spray/gel, lip gloss, mascara, nail polish, makeup removers/cleansers, foundation
- Non-solid food items - soups, syrups, pressurized food containers (cheese or whipped cream), gelatin, pudding, yogurt
- Liquid soaps, sanitizers, bath oils, bubble bath
- Any creams, ointments or lotions
- All other liquids/gels not listed here
To Simplify Security Screening:
- Place all liquid containers in a separate clear plastic, zip-top bag no larger than 8in x 8in (20cm x 20cm) or is quart size. Items must fit in the bag comfortably so that it closes completely.
- Individual liquid containers should be no larger than 3.4 ounces/100 ml.
- Remove the plastic bag from the cabin bag at the security checkpoint for separate x-ray screening.
Passengers carrying liquids in their cabin bags may be subject to secondary searches before boarding. Luggage limits vary with each airline. Contact the airline you will be traveling with to get information about its policies. Several airlines charge passengers for having two bags.
What to Pack
Pack as if you are going on a trip for about two weeks. Bring enough toiletries and clothing for that time period. Also, consider the region where your ship will be sailing. For example, if the ship is sailing in Alaska, you may want to bring a few items of warm clothing. Remember, for the most part you will receive your uniform when you arrive onboard. However, you will need to bring your own shoes for work.
Your uniform may not be ready for you on the first day, so plan to wear appropriate business attire. Otherwise, you will wear your uniform most of the time when onboard. Street clothing can be worn when you go ashore or when you are in crew areas during your personal time off. Bring comfortable as you'll be on your feet.
Pack lightly! Cabins are small and too many personal items only get in the way. The following checklist will help you decide what to bring:
